Internal War

Silence always echoes
Walls forever confine
Time invariably passes
A world not of mine

A blindness lingers
Impedes the light
Shadows mislead
Reinforcing my plight

My stomach turns
Feeling nausea
My mind replays
Previous trauma

Tragic in moments
Isolated in grief
Pleading for mercy
Lacking relief

Sleeping to escape
Yet dreaming resists
No solace resides
Where desperation exists

Progressing further
Increasing fears
A constant haunt
And terror rears

Darkness prevails
An unfathomed pain
Ominous power
Unyielding reign

Breathing not permitted
In this horrid place
Anticipation overpowers
Awaiting blows, I brace

Unrelenting nights
Impeding each day
Enduring this plague
No soul should obey

I know your combat secrets
Familiar to your rank
From previous encounters
I've come to know your flank

Finding strength within
I pull up to my feet
Internal war is waged
I will see your defeat

Amen! When you are victorious over the inner demons, the outer ones don't stand a chance! Wonderfully powerful poem and a well-deserved win, Melanie - blessings! :-)
