Inspired by View from Vincent's Room - Van Gogh

there's a distance I cannot escape
     lines are drawn
     maps know where they crease
exuberance adds flourish to the page
it leaves by my hand
       and I let it go
in its place are hooks to the ground
         no matter the sky's expanse
I'm too timid to do more than see
the risk of the revelation -
                 to be peripheral
      just a vantage point
          instead of someone who matters

I think it says so much about your poetry Laurentine when your ekphrases (I’ve read several) do not require a complimentary image of the works you are referring to. Your vivid, detailed descriptions help the absent art works appear, come to life on the page and help the reader ‘step inside them’. Much Kudos. Cheers - Gary

Thanks Gary - I did once get a reader to describe the art I was writing about before seeing it - it's actually a lovely way to bounce around inside the art :) thank you so much for your thoughtful comment and read through of the work I've shared here (and work past).

You hold back slightly on this one LG, but I’m guessing that’s the whole idea, you see the beauty in what Van Gogh has painted, and are more than content with his limited vantage point. You certainly know all the angles on how to put a great Ekphrasis together, love it, cheers David

I think you're right - I actually was of a mind to post something quite elaborate by Picasso, changed my mind and went too tame... I do love this one though :) thank you for the feedback maestro :)
