Inspired by The Lugubrious Game by Dali

from the conch
                whispers come
   dissect
      distract

  blow upon

         scintilla branch to intrinsic thought
weighed down
    consumed

             overwrought

         mattering - so magnified
that I can't turn away my eyes
reach for able hand to soothe
what dread could deed undo, disprove

                kisses stolen
     by long lost words
           explored lactic fallacies
become absurd
til endings are not the body expired
but exposure of every cell and every wire

                   cathartic grip held in awe
control depletes as hem and haw
        til sadly swings
              and bridges to shame
call time
        I must
              on the lugubrious game

A haunting, wonderfully surreal ekphrasis: the fractured spacing and cascading lineation create a disoriented visual field perfectly attuned to Dalí’s psychological dreamscape. Your language moves from conch-whispers and “scintilla branch” through bodily, electric exposure to the final shame-laden “lugubrious game,” making the poem feel both cerebral and visceral.

Wowza, what an explosion of the subconscious you have penned here Miss Laurentine, A cornucopia of surreal and real thoughts. think I might need to borrow that big hand to cover my own eyes 🤫never mind Dali’s, but I’ll look through my fingers and enjoy the interpretation you have provided for the reader, (exposure of every cell and every wire) sets one’s mind on fire, a Fave from me, cheers David

💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻 thanks David! I'm thrilled with this fantastic comment and fave 🤩 I really loved delving into unusual word choices for this one and dancing around the imagery to create a bit of duality of meaning 😊 I quite enjoy taking on a painting that really defies being a pretty poem and seeing where it ends up 😊 thank you again 😊

This artpiece is an unforgettable one! Even the name! I wonder what was goin through Dalis mind, when he painted that ~ honestly genius! Hah! And must I even talk about your lines and how catchy they are? Well Just what I needed a smile! Today I feel like I am seeing kisses in the air on soup! Lol erhm I mean the line "kisses stolen by long lost words explored lactic fallacies become absurd" why do these words hit home right now? 😱 its insane! And the word fallacies! 😱
