Inside the Matrix: Choose Your Pill

“What is this strange place we find ourselves in
Trapped in the open, we are free within”

On a place called earth, we live, then die -
We work, we love, we laugh, we cry.
Some have their freedom; some do not,
and some do only as they’re taught.

This Matrix sometimes seems surreal.
You need to question how you feel.
Do not be fooled by man’s deceit.
Choose what will make you feel complete.

Two pills there are. It’s up to you
to choose the red one or the blue.
The blue is chosen generally.
But does this mean you’re really free?

The blue means prison even though
so beautiful blue’s dream can be!
A rebel, I prefer red’s truth -
life’s harsher pill: reality.

Great line: "Do not be fooled by man’s deceit. / Choose what will make you feel complete." Reminds me of the line from Hamlet - to thine own self be true. Excellent musings on the subject of freedom and conformity. Congrats for your win!

"Some have their freedom; some do not, and some do only as they’re taught." I feel sorry for the last ones listed here.

I'm with you, Andrea. It's the many shades of red that spin my head, for each person changes the shade as they swallow the pill; it becomes their reality and theirs only. ??? Thanks for making me think today! You the poet! Good luck in the contest my friend. Hugs, Bill

Sage advice Andrea "This Matrix sometimes seems surreal. You need to question how you feel. Do not be fooled by man’s deceit. Choose what will make you feel complete."

Or as Walt Whitman said, " Re-examine all you have been told ... Dismiss what insults your soul." Love this quote. I practice it constantly. :-)

A difficult subject and still I'm not sure what a matrix is. However you composed a poem with choices of earth. Which is right or wrong. Personally I go for what is good. I'm no philosopher. Hugs.

When Trinity removes the tracking device from Neo's naval and incredulous, he asks if it's Real, the proper response is: "Mu", because Neo's definition of "Reality" is too limited. "Quality Metaphysics" (Z.A.M.M. ~ Robert Pirsig) expands reality.
