Innocent Dog

Poem:  Innocent Dog

Dark day
in
California -

old restless
ruthless,
death,

rolled out
from

it's
fiery cave,

screeching
it's
death wheels,

speeding
senselessly

out of
control -

And

out
beneath
a row
of
eucalyptus
trees,

on
Lake Merritt -

an
innocent,

(free)

and
happy dog,

lay dying -

Ol' death
flipped through
the air,

unannounced -

It was
unkind,

as
it's death
wheels
sped through

the
blood red
stop light -

the
wicked curve

that
cuts sharp
on
an angle,

was merciless -

Ol' death,

wretched
to
the core,

jumped
the curb

at the
Cameron-Stanford
House,

Instantly

ending
the life

of
an innocent
dog,

who's

dark
glassy
eyes

and
body

lay
motionless
on
the ground -

Life
was gone
in a
breath -

And
Ol' death

had
found
a
home -

I cried
that day,

for an
Innocent
dog -
