Inked Soul

For you, I will stain my body
For you, I will let the needle
pierce my skin,
ink my flesh,
as your absence inks my soul.

I carry darkness there and
this new tattoo
will just be that bone-deep stain
making its outward appearance.

Sometimes you can see it in my
eyes
but I try so hard to hide
the grief
and anger.

So for today, a KNOT
to show remembrance
of how your HEART
is entwined with mine.

Thank you, Silent One. It was written for my son who passed away from cancer in 2007.
