Infinite Amber
Thus brighter spots in a deadened swamp
Do become trapped in viscous sap
To remain as unfinished bastions of hope
Stuck infinitely as amber to be marvelled
Twinkling stars in a vast abyss
Orbiting a much larger force
As a spiral galaxy in all of its beauty
Is consumed by the black hole uniting it
To break free and wander away
Leaving gaps in the night sky
With only a healing sunburn to remind us
That they were there to begin with
Thus those great monoliths remain unfinished
Standing strong so long as their base does
A joy to marvel, to attempt to imagine
How beautiful they would have looked
Memories of darker days remain
With orators bringing tales to make them bright
Sounds of construction and joy
Rang true and strong
So here we stand upon a deadened field
Torn towers pointing like fingers
Accusing the sky of misdoings never committed
And darkening the land once more
So I'll trap these sins in amber
And carry them with me for as long as I can
As a small reminder to me alone
That those days were not wasted.
