Inevitable

Sitting on the dock
I, lost in thoughts
Stare into the deep sunset
Awaiting my ferryboat

Moments flip through my mind:
Family, friend, foe
Makers of priceless memories,
The pages of a fully lived life.

The blaring of the captain's horn
Draws me into the ferryboat
A smile on my lips
As I sail into the sunset.

I know the kind of peace you are describing, and imagine your first instinct upon hearing that horn was not a smile as you used the word blaring. However, when I am in this kind off a pensive mood, it takes a good deal to bring me back. Thank you for causing me to want to go off onto a dock and stare at water today instead of going to work.
