Independent Women

You call us strong
 independent, dynamic
 powerful,
 energetic
and some, less kind, might say
 bold and intimidating.
But you can’t see into our souls.
 We,
 strong women who struggle
 with massive characters,
 share hearts seared with scars.
 We feel deeply,
 love fiercely,
protect our own with all we are,
have the courage to give until
 we are empty, and
 sometimes
 what we really are
 is afraid.
 It’s then,
we just need someone to take our hand,
and tell us everything is going to be okay
