In your arms
I was the little girl you held in your arms
When the abolitionist greases your palm
You sat around the old wooden table
With a feather fountain ink pen
And you sign that document to transport me out of hell
I could not speak but my heart kept breathing aloud
And I kept looking at all the people around me
And I felt the burden that surrounds me.
I was only three when you sign the decree
It was just like yesterday when the rain fell
Very hard and flooded the street
and we crossed over the deep
And I remember how we bond together
But faith kept us together.
I was the little girl with the bushy hair
And a feisty countenance that everyone fears
There was no question that I could not answer
And there was no riddle that I could not solve.
You carry me everywhere you go
Because there was a given mandate
From the time of my birth
for me to wear frock
and shirt and travel the world
but you left me with a cantankerous family
That treated me very badly,
For all they wanted was money
you never came back and I sank into poverty
And as I grew up, I could feel the difference
I was part of a different show
My concept was bigger than everyone else
And my destination was larger than the heaven.
As I moved from one dimension to the next
I kept holding my breath, wondering what will be next
As the wicked witch of the west kept buzzing around
Spreading rumors and lies around to hold me down
but heaven covers me and the universe protects me.
I keep expanding in my space
And I take everything in good grace
And when I am alone, I create paradise on the field
And heavens raise my heel
I am the little girl that you held in your arms
That travel with you to Canada, America, Cuba and England
I have never met my mother or father
But you claim that I am your daughter
The people I grew up with were unkind
But I never kept them on my mind
I am different from them and we have
Nothing in common but I hope to meet my
Parents soon so that we can travel to the moon
The little girl that you carry in your arms
As since grown into a woman,
You will see how different it will be
When I meet my real family
The little girl you held in your arms
Has weather all the storms.
