In The Trenches

A tenderfoot soldier and medic, in the thick of war; his first-ever deployment. He's frozen with fear amid intensifying gunfire; crouching down in the foxhole, trembling as bullets whizz above his head. Blood-soaked casualties of war litter the battlefield and all around him as he treats the gravely wounded All too often, he helplessly watches some in his care succumb to gunshot wounds. The sea of human lives lost, too much for him to stomach; a harrowing scene! His eyes seeing the ugliness of war for the very first time. In the trenches, smack-dab in the middle of a war he doesn't believe in, thinking... "What the hell did I get myself into?" Date written: 09/08/2020
