In the Stillness of the Night
In the Stillness of the Night
In the stillness of the night I fell asleep beside your murmur soft and low,
A sweet refuge with your warm chest cradling my temples in its glow,
I no longer remember what whisper it was or what melodies you hummed,
Perhaps they were the ballads of rivers and branches that wove your dreams and strummed.
Or perhaps it was the memory of your childhood lost somewhere behind the words,
I no longer remember what you sang only that I sank into the sweetness of your chords,
My hands would lose themselves inside your wild and untamed hair so free,
Strand by strand a labyrinth in which I was enchanted to be lost and to just be.
It was so untamed and you were losing yourself inside your own melody and song,
So deeply that you no longer noticed me drifting there all night long,
I no longer remember why your eyes were shadowed with the trace of tears,
Perhaps it was only the bitterness of sunsets a subtle melancholy that appears.
Or perhaps it was from love and tenderness and only you could ever know,
I no longer remember why the tears were edging down your cheeks with their slow flow,
Only that you were an enchanting vision in the darkness soft and still,
And I watched you lose yourself in your own music against my will.
In the stillness of the night I fell asleep beside your murmur low and near,
Loving you wrapped in the sweetness of your voice and your presence clear,
In every tremor of the night in every verse that you would softly croon,
In every strand of hair and in every tear that was born beneath the moon.
I loved you I loved you with every heartbeat steady and every breath drawn deep,
I loved you in the stillness of the night as I fell into your sweetness fast asleep.
