In the Stars

Inspired by Robert James Liguori's" In The Stars By The Rolling Stones Poetry Contest"

Living in this world of sin
where evil and corruption run wild,
can you recall a sweeter time
than when you were but a child?

We go to school and think we’ve learned
the right and necessary things,
then work our jobs; like zombies
as we live for what the weekend brings.

Take a pause and look up to the sky.
See the stars glistening up there.
In the stars, might we find escape
from all the bad bringing us despair?

Take somebody’s hand; forge a bond.
Know that death will not be your end.
There’s a world beyond the brightest stars
where there’s love you cannot comprehend.

Live in the now with gratitude
no matter the challenges that come.
As stars’ dust brings new life,
like those stars above you can become.

Andrea, I marvel at how you take a child through the busy process of growing up and offer infinitely wise advise: "Take a pause and look up to the sky."..... "Live in the now with gratitude". I will, I will, I promise you I will!

Very positive, and beautifully expressed. Words to the wise who listen. For all the evil, there is good even more. Most the people I have met and loved. My world has been blessed.

Andrea, this one reads like a great contender to me, but I am not familiar with the Rolling Stones. I could have heard one of their songs years ago but really not know who wrote or sang it though. Thank you for sharing this one with us. Way to go. 👏✍️.. Sara K.

Oh Sara, you are too good!! Rolling Stones was only the second most popular rock group of the 60s. Mick Jagger still going strong today!

Ohhhh wow yesss! I absolutely feels and agree with your sentiments here sweet Andrea.. childhood perhaps is the sweetest time when being surrounded by family that loves you .. for me, it was not easy cuz of my health conditions but I am grateful having my parents, forever, with me. and when we grow, we truly turn on the survival mode and land in the zone of zombies ... Sigh. I can feel the weight of the stirring emotions here! And also how you've said "There’s a world beyond the brightest stars where there’s love you cannot comprehend." And also ""As stars’ dust brings new life, like those stars above you can become." Just wow.. today all we can do is live in the moment and search for what truly replenishes the soul.. learn to feel the warmth of stillness and embrace we what we truly have near our hearts.. very soul-touching this is! 💫 🌙 Sending you light and hugsszzzz 🧜‍♀️ 🧜‍♀️ ⭐ ⭐

Andrea, this is a beautifully uplifting piece. The steady ABCB rhyme scheme gives your quatrains a comforting, natural rhythm that perfectly matches the poem's hopeful tone. I love how you contrast the heavy, "zombie-like" routines of our earthly lives with the expansive, spiritual imagery of the stars and stardust. It is a wonderful reminder to look up, connect with others, and live with gratitude!

This poem presents a bleak view of society with an encouraging, spiritual message of hope. Great work as usual.
