In the Shade of Trees - anacreontic

Softly, one grey spider weaves
underneath the heart-shaped leaves.

Upside-down, cicadas cling.
All the day they loudly sing.

I stand still beneath them all.
They are little. I am small.

Should you have favourite children? I'm fond of this one too. J :)

Golden Orb. Big f'ers, as I recall. Vivid imagery you transport with your glorious metaphors. Simple and perfect. Unlike spiders...oh, in the scientific world menacingly beautiful, in the metaphoric world, the rocks they hide under need to be removed from their worlds entirely.

I'm imagining a small one...not so keen on the big ones. Glad you liked this. J :)

Dear Jeannette, your poem is beautiful. Your first couplet reminds me of a spider weaving a web in a lilac tree. I adore your imageries of Nature, your rhymes and your profound final couplet. Splendid! Congratulations for your wonderful win in Silent One's contest. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Thank you :) This is why walking with small children takes a long time (not just the short legs, the fascination with ants, spiders...)
