In The Name Of The State

Twinkle Twinkle
Little Star
ICE shot a woman 
In her car
As their encirclement 
Tried to tighten
She drove away because
 She became frightened

Three quick shots
To the head
One more to add
To their tally of dead.

There was no shame
The victim herself
Was to blame

ICE it seems
Has the power to use
Stop and search
To physically abuse,k
The old Wild West
From days of yore
Seems to be coming
Back once more

Or is it just an era of
intolerance and hate
Heralds the birth
Of a new NAZI State 
Twinkle twinkle 
Little Star
An innocent shot
In her car..

I'm safe in bed
But i cant sleep
I want to curse
I want to weep
Dreadful thoughts
Flow through my head
That an innocent woman
Is needlessly dead

Ilene Bauer January 13, 2026 at 12:37 PM this is brilliant, terry! every day there's another awful event in the news and we sit and watch this and can't believe what is happening to a once-great nation. at least there are more people speaking out and writing about it, although i don't really know if our sense of outrage will do anything at all to make things better... The protests over what you are going through are now international so we can only things will improve soon

I really do have sleepless nights. You highlight the terrible incident that happened with your talent of putting issues into rhyme, making it so easy to read, yet evoking powerful thought.
