In the Fallen Snow

my mind
as empty as this sky
lingers in the depths
of yesterday's thoughts
now buried in blankets
of fresh fallen snow

my footsteps
lead me to the path
yet untraveled
but raveled
in the depths
of my dreams

hope sits still
frozen like icicles
on these trees
awaiting the warmth
of something i know
will never come
in this frigid air

i close my eyes
trying to regain
a momentary glimpse
of you and the warmth
you always bring
yet all i can see
is the same darkness
as this night
surrounding me

hope is a shield against winters cold... deflecting its frosty breath... hope is the spark that lights my darkness... until dawn returns to light my way... but... it is your memory... that truly brings me warmth... Nice poem dear Lady

Winter will definitely bring on these feelings. When cold and dreary emptiness is felt and the heart beats a little slower. But my friend, that warmth will return very soon and hopefully along with it, your smile. Sigh ~ you are amazing.

Thank you so much Chris...my smile is there...i am happy to not have to work in this cold weather...my muse didn't care to write for any more contests so i looked out the window at the scene and let her take it where she wanted... good morning, thank you for the kind words and the warm smile they bring :) hugs

Metaphor of the empty sky speaks to the emotions expertly evoked--lovely write, Sandy.

thank you so much Vijay... you don't realize how much you miss the beauty in the sky...night or day until the skies remain cloudy often...we have had our share, as you know, of rainy, snowy, dreary weather this past year.... hugs

Thank you Kai... no sadness here, just cold winds and some snow upon the ground... winter is my least favorite season so it's hard to give the scene happy emotions... hugs

Thank you so much Jenish...i love giving nature emotions... it's cold here, our first real snow, although it wasn't really more than a few inches...hugs

Maybe you are experiencing SAD that many experience in the dead cold of winter? You are an expert at writing free verse Sandra. Your internal rhyme, your brevity that makes a statement...all of it is brilliant my friend! xxoo
