In the Early Morning Rain

IN   THE   EARLY   MORNING   RAIN

Used to sing folk songs a lot,  still do.
But  Lightfoot’s  Early Morning Rain
Was  always my best.   Sung it eight 
Million times, and often accompanied on 
Harmonica too,  just like Dylan.
Dylan and me, we loved the song.
I never was no expert on guitar:
Just eight basic chords, nothing more;
But I taught myself little extra bits
To add on  to chords to enjoy it more.
First verse in D,  second  in C,
Then the last two in  G, with lots of bass
To show the ‘mighty engines roar’.
Great song, strangled by my mediocrity,
But I loved it  and still do.  Dylan  never
Felt threatened by me,  I guess.

Andrea Dietrich January 19, 2011 at 8:28 PM I recall that name LIghtfoot (GOrdon?) but not the song. Also, I took up guitar in my older days and practiced many many hours all to little avail. I just can't play without seeing the chords right in front of me. But I sure loved it when I was trying it. This is very nice. Who was Dillon?

"Early Morning Rain" is one of my favorite folk songs and I miss groups like Peter, Paul and Mary and the Mamas and Papas. I'd love to hear you play this song on your guitar.
