In the Distance

Through the gathering
gloom
our eyes see
      a bat
           winging
      it its way
              through the humid air
life here
    is not easy
for the smaller mammals
     and its not so easy
for *****sapiens either
    we don't have wings
  and we can't run with
  the speed of a cheetah
      As night falls once again
our eyes catch glimpses
       of our fellow creatures
the bat will find it's
way home
     We'll find our paths, too
      A serious silence
grips us
     soon we will learn
what our fate shall be
       The bat is almost
out of sight now
     Just a small
dark object
        off in the evening distance
on a summer evening
