In the Dark
I can't see happiness when it's right there
right in front of me in a flower dress;
she shows me she loves me,
but I can't see it.
I can't feel the pain in the eyes
of refugees and terror victims,
because it has become a routine
event in the news.
Desensitization taking its toll?
I can't tell anymore what it means to be happy;
even the clowns of today in movies kill people
with butter knives in the night!
I don't know who I am anymore,
when I stare at myself in the mirror;
I only see fragments of myself fused
with identities that aren't mine.
I am in the dark....
