In the Dark

This morning I walked in the dark. Before, I’d not go to the park When the sky wasn’t light; It would give me a fright For the pathways were lonely and stark. But now, though, my worries do lack The fear of a mugger attack. It’s the foe that’s unseen Causing mass quarantine That I hope to keep off of my back. Ere the sunrise, the streets are devoid Of the crowds making me paranoid. So I breathe in the air While remaining aware Of each early bird I must avoid.

Great job here, Ilene. those early birds, though, they always have to be there. Geeez.

The coronavirus reportedly lingers on beards and pet fur, so two metres may not be enough in windy weather during your walk in the park. Our parks are closed, but golf courses are still open! At least your grandchildren can have fun with, "Grandma in the dark, Grandma in the park, hi, yo the merry oh, Grandma going stark" Aloha! Rico

I am virus-free so I jog proudly / up and down empty streets now uncowedly / but I still carry mace / and a whistle, in case / someone coughs in my face or breathes loudly... I agree, it's great to get outdoors. Be safe out there, Ilene. Loved your write!

You are courageous, Ilene, since crowds or not, the virus is still in the air. When I walk outdoors I wear a hospital face mask and keep it on until I'm in my apartment. My apartment complex is mostly elderly and not a few on already on oxygen, most from years of smoking and emphysema. / MNB

Like the way you used 'early bird' in the last line. Brought a wide smile to my face. Thanks, Ilene! :) :) gw

you are wise to get out before there is anyone out on the streets - we go out in the countryside it was glorious with all the golden gorse in the hedgerows and paths, everyone we saw was upbeat and smiling and we made sure we kept our distance. we have to try and carry on as best we can. we go into lockdown on friday no one can come to our Island for 21 days and they have to self isolate for that time. it will be interesting to see how they police it, stay safe:-) hugs Jan xx

most edicts about "sheltering in place" allow you to get outside for exercise and i'm hoping that that won't change. i'll go crazy if i can't get outside at all. ~ i loved your poem and pictures of the "golden gorse," jan...
