In the Closet

Your big beautiful black eyes--
They haunt me when I try to sleep.
They taunt me while I lie awake.
I can't get away.
Believe me I've tried.
Remember when I said "no"?
Yeah, I lied.

I am reminded every day
That perhaps I should have "yes."
But you know me best.
I'm too shy; I'm too ashamed
To know who I am.
I covered my ears with my hands;
Now I'll bury my head in the sand.
