In the Black Pages of the Black Code

I do not need a crown of thorns to recognize the putrid stench of my oppressors.
I meticulously read the mournful messages buried in the darkness of the scars sown by the hatred of those bloodthirsty colonizers.
I carry within my flesh the memories of those who assaulted my Africanness,
who trampled my history like a steamroller.
I do not forget the supremacist sermons of those false preachers,
nor the feasts organized by those predatory philanthropists.
I decipher the economic equations of those calculating demons.
I wear a somber face before the hypocritical smiles of those manipulators.
I watch my dignity being whipped whenever they spit upon all immigrants,
as though being a foreigner were enough to manufacture insecurity.
Every morning, I battle poverty,
without surrendering my dignity amid overcrowding.
I will never erase all those ancient atrocities;
they have given birth to other calamities.
I extend my hand to oppressed peoples,
without selling my soul to compromise.
I have never accepted false compensation,
which conceals injustice beneath condemnations.
Every day, I cross the savagery of this torrent of discrimination,
without accepting my demonization.
I reject their manipulation,
I laugh in the face of their curses.
I let their delusions die,
I no longer answer their outcries.
I will never submit to the dictatorship of their hegemony,
which christens its own barbarism as "civilization."
Behind their deceitful promises, I recognize a vast swindle,
and I answer with the patience of education.
I know negrophobia,
the obscene twin of xenophobia.
I have never feared fanatical dogmas,
nor tyrannical powers,
nor satanic discourses,
nor malevolent dreams.
I know that these racists build their profits
upon an ocean of evil,
and adorn their lies with elegant artifices,
while our incurable wounds become their orifices.
I know the language of violence,
which shields the arrogance of opulence.
I fight against excesses;
they have given birth to my distrust.
I choose trust,
without making peace with deviance,
without applauding intolerance,
without imitating indifference.
Every day, I fight racism,
just as I fight imperialism,
which allows capitalism to flourish
and justifies racialism.
I have never cultivated hatred;
I sow seeds,
even when the roads to redemption offer me nothing but pain
and my wrists remember the chains.
I recognize the traitors
who bow before those false masters.
