Notes About The Poem

Me and every boy I knew wanted to grow up and be a superhero. Has that dream died, or has that spirit been betrayed and beaten out of us a thousand times by the time we reach adulthood?

Going against one's true nature doesn't lead to greener pastures.

It may lead to frustrated scribblings such as this

In Silences, awake

In silences, awake
In another sighs wake
Wond'ring what parts me from the dead
My shallow breath, my numbing head?
My weariness upon morning's break?
My trembling hands, my heart ache?
For the dead, feel no such pain
Nor to themselves lie and hope in vein
Yet, I lay here well allied by both
So, then alive, yet a life I loath
For tomorrow, what will change
Will the sun rise a cardinal strange
Will light turn shadow to dust
Will I, the gods, once more trust
Where clearly I've been forsaken
My faith of finding love shaken
Hope stillborn
Love forlorn
Another sigh
Another hour passes by
Upon my deathbed
I do not die
Instead, I cry
Wond'ring why I even try

But misery be still
For adversity, breeds will
And get up from this bed, I will
And smile upon a new morning
Though my heart seems mourning
The death of a goodly friend
Promised to see me through to the end
Yet, not even in dream
Have we ever met again

Abandoned

Left standing upon the brink
Saddened to even think
Any other could cleave my darkness
And see me unclothed, my vileness
Seen only by my eye
Taught as a child, was I
By those who'd see me die
Mother, father, here I lie
Not a tear cried
Love denied

Another sigh
Another hour passes by
The dawn breaks my listless sky
I rise again, but why?

Get up, shower, and shave
Promise to behave
Money's not to save
Only for food and bills to pay
From a job that just fills the day
Seeing the rolls asleep, we play
Wond'ring how it feels to stay that way
Living lies that lead away
From the grim reality
That life's not what it should be
And that we live each lie intentionally
Because it makes betrayal easy
Even when it's yourself
Honor gathers dust on a shelf
Aside dignity and lucidity
Morals from another century
Replaced by demoralizing cruelty
Step out of line, and you'll see
What we've shaped our world to be

Unforgiving

Dispassionate
Breeding like rats in a habitat
The experiment failed
Our faces paled
Our souls assailed
Innocents jailed
By a system that failed
Where truth isn't always fact
But money the sane voices lacked

Another sigh
More hours pass by
In bed, we lie
Whining that futile cry
Forgetting
"Do or die,"
Regretting being the passerby
If virtue is the roll to play
Then, prove it
Be that one man movement
Be the example that leads the way
Instead of dreaming of a brighter day
Build it
Be that fire that fuels it
They'll try and put you out
With gasoline
Without a doubt
They'll be blinded by your brilliance
Your resilience
To see the battle
To the end
List'ning to the death rattle
As their corrupt souls
Descend
The return of a goodly friend
Piles of ashes blown by the wind
Darkening the sky
The fading remnants of a lie
We patterned our lives by
The charm broken
We see it now with an open eye
And a heart awoken
The urge again to try
Before another hour passes by
Ask yourself
Who will save this world
If not, you and I?

Love the note. Adulthood should never crush a childhood dream. Keep reaching beyond the uncertain. You were meant to embrace the sky. This thought says so much- ' They'll try and put you out. ' Yes, they will. If you allow it. I'm in the clouds and I intend to stay there. : ) The view is amazing.

Some one told me when I was younger that my head was in the clouds. I took it as a compliment. Thank you for your kind words
