In Reality

In Reality

Why do we presume such things
As the roles people must play
And that from commoners to kings
We must all behave in a certain way

That heroes are fearless is a tale
An image trying to make them more
They know bravery is scared as hell
Yet going on, even at death’s door

That those we elect to lead us
Should be able to serve us all
Is ludicrous - for none but Jesus
Can lead and serve without a fall

That parents have it all together
Under their laws we’re bound for life
Is an illusion creating stormy weather
It is tradition with time-honored strife

That those who teach in schools
Live only disciplined, honorable lives
Like us, these humans will break rules
Needing forgiveness, not verbal knives

That those who serve to protect us
 Military, police, medical and more
Are more perfect than just us
What might we do in uniform?

That priests and preachers for God
Lifted mystically above me and you
Are yours to “roast” at will - how odd
Because love is everyone’s job to do

We want to lift high and be near
People we envy, things we desire
While putting down those we fear
As we look, we are seen no higher

In reality we are all strong
In reality we are all weak
To the human race we all belong
God alone offers the truth we seek
