In Our Silence

There we stood in silence and like a cancer it spread,
an abyss appeared and consumed us with our silence,
the once young and carefree us disappeared,
our time when words were not needed, yet still spoken.

Words were all we had left and yet we could no longer find them,
we were so lost and there was no way back,
old and lonely, full of sadness and happy memories fading,
I have so many words now, but you are not here to hear them.

I wonder often how your life fared, happiness? contentment?
old photographs-battered and worn, smiles and laughter,
you are still as always in my heart, always in my mind,
As I stand alone in the silence.
