Notes About The Poem

In Or Out

Flyin' along on a ramblin' roll
Hopin' the day don’t take it’s toll.
Every morning's light anew
Every evenings kiss, pray end with you.
Days hungry hinged on missing moments lost
That slip between the cracks, at what the cost?

Bend a penny written on, with some fair city’s stamp
If you’re lucky you’ll align a slightly different camp
You’ll become some proud minority
Black, white, brown, poor, sick, or worse
Underprivileged all, and born with a curse
To answer to the reveille's call
Of blinded prejudice shout:

“LET ME IN ... and lock the others out!”

Yesterday so foreign in its memory now unfurled
A lazy cat of closeness to me curled.
The day was good and each would say
There stood a day when we could speak of love
Days that knew no loss .... that knew no sin
And still they bellowed:

“LET ME OUT ... and lock the others in!”
