They handed it to me The heavy green wool jacket Circa 1918 Found safe in an attic In its pockets “dogtags” Shoe buckles And a small bracelet Etched…NELLIE. He had come home He would remember The men that came home He would never forget Those that hadn’t. As I placed it in the box I whispered “THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE”
