In Her Shell

Late at night in her bed,
                           she says her prayers in
                           her head.
                           To keep her safe through
the night, until the dawn of
                            the morning light
.
                            For when night time falls
                            and, darkness creeps in,
that is when the battle with
                            her demons begin and,
                            the skeletons inside her
                            closet they too are making
                            her life a living hell.

She said her life is like
a turtle living in her shell,
not only is it her home but,
                            her prison as well.

                            Something happened years
ago, that left a hole inside
                            her soul.
I would visit her a few times
a week though, it would break
my heart, it would make me
                            weep.

                            For I could not understand,
                            how this women so awesome,
                            this women so grand, would
let her life go to hell and,
choose to live inside her shell
                            away from others, from herself
                            as well.
