her eyes piercing
at times drifting off
into a distant past
without a word
i imagined how
in a flashback
she'd remember
as in a trance
unspeakable atrocities
barely survived
over in europe
in the early forties
how 'lucky' she was
loved ones fallen never forgotten
etched forever in her heart
