In Another Time

You and I have met before,
Roaming the sweaty streets of Cairo,
Listening to the sound of the desert,
Searching for the hidden oasis.
Alas – that was in another time.

You were sleeping
As the caravan moved on.
I was gathering the fragments
Of a broken song. And life passed,
And the next, and the many,

But in life´s spinning cycles
We will meet again and again,
And there will always be
A faint remebrance
And a faint sorrow.

This was my first poem posted on PS, but it was written many years ago. I have been a member for a year. I like being part of a community of poets. The main way PS helps me become a better poet is that it motivates me to sit down and write.
I actually still like this poem, some images still speak to me.

I visited your page to be able to read your first poem here. I am Egyptian, and this made me smile :) Life's strange cycles, and how displaced we can feel... Beautiful poetry Agnes. You're such a great poet.....

Thank you, Darren. This was my first ever poem in English, and the only one I wrote for decades. I was living in California, and a friend posed a poetry challenge and, if I recall correctly, gave the second line as a prompt. I ended up being the only one to write a poem ... and this is it :)

wow, tones of reincarnation in this one. I love your style, Agnes. My favorite line: gathering the fragments of a broken song.

Agnes, Welcome to Poetry soup, I hope you enjoy the community. Here, you will find friendly poets who enjoy supporting one another. I myself, enjoy reading and commenting those who want to be read. The only time I give constructive criticism is when a poet desires it. However, if for some reason the poem is not my field I will guide you to someone who is more qualified than I. Stop by and read one of my poems if you like. My poems are not perfect, but I have a feeling you might like one. I encourage you to check out the contest page and read to receive comments. Tell me a little about your poetic skills if you like. It will be my pleasure to follow and read every poem you post from here on :) We are Lucky To Have you. Your New Poet Friend @-> LINDA <-@
