Immortal Master Bach

His music, written centuries ago, is still beloved and performed today: cantatas, fugues, concertos, preludes, and the mass in B – perhaps the greatest piece of choral music ever to have been composed. From soaring tones, the voices build a sound cathedral, reaching to the sky. The crucifixion’s deep despair and then the resurrection’s radiant joy resound and touch the audience and the singers deep within their inner human core and heart – the miracle of music that transcends the times. Immortal is the master’s work. 2/22/2017 For contest: Form I with a Theme Sponsored by: Broken Wings

So well written Agnes, brought back memories of growing up with this type of music. My father was a musician.

Your poem soars too, here, Agnes. : ) Greatest composer of all time? Bach is certainly at least in the running. Technically and intellectually impressive, but also layered, soulful, even with the human spirit as its fundament.

Beautiful Agnes, I could hear a piano softly playing as I read this. Being a pianist, this one really spoke to me.

Thanks, Chris. He wrote a lot of fantastic keyboard music, the Well Tempered, and the Goldberg variations - most of which are above my ability to play. I am primarily a singer, and I think for me the mass is the greatest piece I have ever performed.
