Immaculate Conception

A single cell dividing brings a new life to this infertile body. Hungry and eager, it grows quickly, pushing organs aside or consuming them. Knives, radiation, and chemical poisons: Failed abortions. Cancer claims another woman.

This poem makes me wonder why cancer exists in the first place? When the host dies the cancer dies too. It doesn't win or gain anything in the end--only death. Glad to see you exploring this painful topic in poetry. Peace, Shari

I guess I was feeling some anger and sadness about a dear friend's condition, and the idea of new life arising unexpectedly kept bouncing around in my head.

This is so powerful. Such a sad and ugly truth well expressed. We all know too many who have been lost to this horrible disease. Love, Shar

Sadly, this poem reflects the terrible truth of cancer. I lost my own mother, and so many others from this deadly disease. Everyone has been touched in some way.
