I'M Just Trying

I'm just trying to write a poem that makes someone's day better
I'm just trying to explain that I'm hurt but the pain won't stay forever
I'm just trying to be the best person that I can be
I'm just trying to play the cards that they hand me

I'm trying to be able to look in the mirror without putting my fist through it
I'm trying to give my broken heart to a girl who will give a kiss to it
I'm just trying to kill my dark thoughts before they kill me
I'm just trying to write something to inspire others that will heal me

I'm just trying to be a better man than I was yesterday
I'm just trying to cope with depression
I'm just trying to find a better way
I'm just trying to learn from all of my lessons

I'm just trying to marry Demi Lovato without my exes getting sad
I'm just trying to cover every inch of paper in this pad 
I'm just trying to be a good enough poet to gain respect for it
I'm just trying to write a line so good someone says they adore it

I'm just trying to find a way to make it through the night
I'm just trying to avoid my past thoughts of suicide
I'm just trying to be the best man I can be
I'm just trying to play the cards that they hand me

The alternative to 'not trying' is a bleak one and I enjoy the emotions of your words to lay it all out with heart, resolve and a dash of humour.
