I'm happy for you
I’m happy that you’ve found someone new
And that you learned not to walk on your toes
I’m glad that I can finally see you smile
And start to laugh uncontrolled
I’m sure you’re happy
I’m sure you feel free
And i can’t express how grateful I am
That the one by your side isn’t me
At one point we might’ve been a dream
We called ourselves friendship goals
But now I realize that we were just like our jeans
Bloodstained and filled with holes
When I walk by you in the hall
And you catch my eye with your hair
I no longer can hate you
And I no longer care.
I gave you everything
And received nothing in return
So here I am, years later
With my lesson learned
I don’t need to pray
For people who understand
I’m not scared to see you
I don’t wring my hands
When you first left
I sat all alone
No one beside me
No place to call home
You took everything
My friends, my love, my trust
You shattered all my morals
And crushed the pieces into dust
But then, with you gone
I started to climb
Brick by brick i built myself up
And all it took was some time
All it took was the rest of the year
To start some friendships anew
Then, the next year, i never sat alone
And it felt like the hard times were through.
As the years started to pass
You seldom crossed my mind
now I pass you every day
but there’s no urge to run and hide
I don’t know what to do when we meet
Because no part of me remains bitter
I’ve let go of the anger that i held close
After you treated my heart like litter
You never smile when I see you
I never frown when i meet your eyes.
It seems to me that our story is over
We meant it when we said goodbye.
