If You Have Never Had Crutches

if you have never had crutches you do not know this
but….
they hurt your underarms in the worst kind of way
They are clumsy and difficult to use

Sometimes they pop against a rock and you go down hard
maybe harder than you did when you broke your leg
and had to have crutches in the first place

If you go to San Francisco and a homeless guy runs off with them
you get to sit on a park bench
hoping he will bring them back

This happened to me, and I was there by myself
Not a relative or a friend anywhere around
it was horrible

I frankly hope that crutches never come into my life again
using them is not half as much fun as it looks like

Ilene Bauer August 15, 2023 at 1:46 PM i've never had crutches, caren, but they don't look like that much fun to me. i hope i never need them, especially after dealing with my first ever broken arm. your story sounds awful... Ilene Bauer August 17, 2023 at 3:15 AM I slipped on a wet concrete step covered with leaves and blossoms and went in the air and down on my butt. Guess I put out my arm to break the fall. I’ve been down those steps 1,000 times at least, but never fell before and I guess my old bones didn’t like it… Caren Krutsinger August 16, 2023 at 10:38 PM I am sorry about your arm Ilene.
