if you can't respect me, how can I respect myself

They talk down
like they paid for my syllables,
and rented my home.

but I’ve bled on too many syllables,
to bow,
too my high rent and my soft voice.

if you won’t meet me eye to eye,
don’t ask why I walk alone
with my head still up.
