If This Was My Last Poetry Contest
If this was my last poetry contest I would be incapacitated
Unable to think of anything else.
Nothing would revive me.
I would slide down into the floor rafters.
Falling with no grace at all in the middle of rats.
If this was my last poetry contest I would not be eager
To face tomorrow or tonight
I would make my poem extra long
Adding so many words it would be obscene
And no one would ever read it,
including me.
If this was my last poetry contest it would mean
that tomorrow I would be deceased, or in a coma,
or want to be one or both.
Poetry contests rev me up, ramp me up, keep me excited,
give me brilliant new ideas, make me feel joyful and eager
to try new things. Poetry contests have become my go-to
happy place.
