If They Saw What I See

if they saw what i see
they would not have been cruel
never would have threatened you
insults never hurled
no betrayal, no breech of trust
no wounding blows of blame
there would not have been violence
no damning words of shame

if they saw what i see
they would have known that you
are a gentle precious treasure
with so much love to give
a partner, helper, and a friend
a bulwark in the storm
an oasis in a desert land
a place of peace and calm

if they saw what i see
they would see this truth
you're a beloved adopted child of mine
and i’m always close to you
my son they treated just the same
they beat and pierced him too
then my spirit healed and brought new life
and will do the same for you
