If There Were No Poets/ Poetry As An Art Form

If there were no poets
from which we could recite
To read words that fill us
with emotions and insights
Or help our eyes to focus
on new angles from which to view
a different way of feeling life
and with which media it is construed
There could not be harmony
in speech or in song
No rhythm there to follow
that which pulls us on along
No joyous voices raised on high
singing ditties or religious hymns
For inside each of us
is a poet working within
It manifests in many forms
and wells up from our souls
To see a vision played out
and push us to reach our goals
Architecture that has inspired awe
by the Romans and the Greek’s
To old log cabins in the woods
and modern building techniques
To the Masters who’s works of art
are layered in life’s mystique’s
To a child’s finger painting
hung in an honored place
It seems a poet is so much more
than rhymes and written prose
If there were no poets
Our world would decompose
