If Poems Were Flowers

If poems were flowers, growing in my heart
surely I’d be a florist, surely I’d have
a bouquet of them to give
when this month finally turns fourteen

If poems were flowers, I with a red inked pen
would pen a rose-scented verse as free as this one
with a bold theme on love
to recite it or perhaps sing it for you
when this month finally goes red with love

If poems were flowers, growing in my heart
and this month was a flowering season
surely I’d have something to share with you
when the whole world celebrates love

If poems were flowers, I’d carry a bouquet to you
I’d stand before you and greet you with a smile
I’d say nothing but wish you a happy Valentine’s Day.
