If Only You Knew

If only you knew which child does not get breakfast.
If only you knew which child cannot hear or see the board,
If only you knew that you remind that student of his abuser
If only you knew that this child has to stand because of the pain
If only you knew a little more about your students
Maybe you would be a much better teacher

If only you knew which suitor was going to steal your light,
If only you knew which beau was a psychopath
If only you knew which one is on his best behavior
If only you knew that why his smile does not reach his eyes
If only you knew which man to rescue by marriage
You would make not only a pretty bride but a better wife.

If only you knew that your sister was married to an abuser,
If only you knew that your brother was going to be isolated,
If only you knew that your mother was keeping her cancer a secret,
If only you knew why tears were not allowed in your family,
If only you knew why being stoic is more important than having feelings,
You might be a more understanding, forgiving, happier relative.
