I saw the sadness in your tear-filled eyes and vowed to put a smile on your dejected face... to give you wings, regain the joy of life, to hear you sing once more. I set you free to roam unfettered, unrestrained – but in euphoric flight you failed to glimpse the pointed shards embedded deeply in my bleeding heart. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Contest sponsored by Silent One Placed 2nd Posted 23rd October 2020

Hi my friend, If you really love someone they say that you must set them free, especially if they have a wild spirit that you feel will never calm down. I love this write and not often do people put others before themselves, but you I know would. A beautiful sad, emotional write Paul. Warm regards and hugs, Jennifer.

Heartfelt piece my friend. It is difficult when a partner doesn't recognize the hurt they are causing the other. It is hard to let someone go but sometimes it is their choice you have to accept, which you don't control. Hope you are well my friend...

Enjoyed reading this, Paul, and I'm sorry I missed it earlier. We really have no choice but to set others free to live their lives. Sometimes, it is hurtful, but love means putting their interests above our own. Beautifully penned, Paul. A fave for me! Hugs, Carolyn

Paul, Such a melancholy quality in this poem 'If Only You Knew'. 'Don't you draw the Queen of Diamonds, boy She'll beat you if she's able ~~ You know the Queen of Hearts is always your best bet'.. -The Eagles

Hello Paul, yes Paul letting go is painful. In time the pain fads. Then you move on. You will see that happening. I wish you the best Paul. Regards Darlene

Dear Paul, your gifted pen cuts to the quick exposing the pain of a tender heart, possibly a dad's - it takes a lot of love to let go and letting go hurts so very much, as your last three lines brilliantly reflect. Your profound poetry always amazes me, my inspiring friend. Best wishes for a win and warmest wishes and hugs for you.. ~Susan
