If Only I Could Speak

Oh mother, oh father, if only I could speak If only I could tell you all that I feel, All that I wish I had said before it was too late. I wish I could tell you that I love you, That your laughter was the music of my heart, That your smile was my guiding light in the darkest of nights. I wish I could tell you that I'm sorry, For the pain I caused, for the tears I made you cry, For the moments of anger and resentment I can never take back. I wish I could ask for forgiveness, For the mistakes I made, for the opportunities missed, For the chances to make things right that slipped through my fingers. But time moves onwards, relentless Leaving me stranded in regret Unable to change what has transpired Leaving only whispers on the wind Oh how I wish I could turn back the clock To rewrite the story with a better ending To mend the heart that lies shattered In the wake of my absence All I can do is send my love from beyond Know that I am watching over you And hold on to the love that remains
