If Only I Could Sleep

The day was so long and hot
I longed for night to come
Cool breezes
A starry sky
A perfect summer night
It would be my chance to rest
To get some well deserved sleep
Alas, the rest will not come
My mind wanders
Words combine in my exhausted mind
Writing the most nonsensical poems
My dreams stay just outside my grasp
Maybe a blessing
They keep my nightmares at bay
Pills and drink don’t work
I know
I have tried
Taken more than they recommend
But they didn’t know that it doesn’t work
I pray for a release
For just a moment to close my eyes
Have my mind empty
And, at last, have the chance to sleep

at least you have the outlet of "poetry." it helps me when those times come - and they come to all of us who "feel." all the best and thank you, chuck
