If Only

If only you had been different,
If only you weren't scarred into
my memory,
If only you were the person
you wanted to be.

If only I could take back
the years I wasted
waiting for you,
If only I didn't love you
with a fire of a thousands suns.

Maybe then I wouldn't care
when you failed to keep
your promises maybe then
it wouldn't hurt to know
that you'll never love me the same.
