If Men Were God

Why do people go to church
If God resides in you and me?
Why not summon Him — and alas,
Your wishes come to be?

If the heart of one man can be holy,
Why can’t yours be holy too?
What need is there for a holier man
When guidance is already written by men?

If need be, find a quiet corner to raise your voice.
He who owns heaven and earth
Knows every heart.
What difference does it make
If someone else prays on your behalf?

If God is in him and He is in you,
Only a coward would say,
A man is holier than I,
Why not seek that same holiness,

Instead of begging man
For what only God can do?
