IF IT WASNT FOR POETRY

IF IT WASN’T FOR POETRY If it wasn’t for poetry, I’d be free Not a reluctant slave to my muse Yet with just one occasional verse The universe suddenly is focussed Words that singly lacked meaning Can combine and multiply emotion Such that it made one draw breath Seeing a glimpse of something real That would not otherwise be born Nor inspire some unknown reader Perhaps even unaware of the craft With a link across time and space
