If It Was True
If it was true
that our brothers were trees
and sentient,
as some native peoples
believe, then...but everyone compromises
a little bit,
and besides,
I need the paper.
If it was true
that apologies could be heard
by animals,
as some native peoples
believe, then...
but everyone compromises
a little bit,
and besides,
there is no proof.
If it was true
clouds, rivers and seas
were our life's blood
as some native peoples
believe, then...
but everyone compromises
a little bit,
and besides,
where else can I piss.
If it was true
that we could move through life
and do no harm
as some native peoples
believe, then...
but everyone compromises
a little bit,
and besides,
I want to get there NOW.
If it was true
that we could provide for
seventh generation
as some native peoples
actually tried, then...
but everyone compromises
a little bit,
and besides,
what harm to wait till
they are here?
