If It Was Not
If It Was Not...
If it was not by the sword,
my own would have slain me with contempt.
If it was not in my very nature,
I would have remained their outlaw king forever.
If I were not driven by pride,
I would still be feasting among my own.
If justice alone had prevailed,
I would have become a forgotten fool.
If it were not for the distance,
I would have stood utterly alone.
Yet every wound became a teacher,
every mile a faithful companion,
and every rejection a path
to the man I was destined to become.
