If I Were
If I were a star
I would flash and shine brighter than all others
to be the one illuminating the infinite beauty of your face
for all the heavens.
If I were a bird,
for seasons soaring o'r awe-inspiring lands,
upon seeing your smile, I would cease flight
to flutter around you; to ever gaze upon you,
for all other beauty would be less than you.
If I were the wind,
once at your side, I would no more wander,
wanting only to gently caress your cheek;
to surround and memorize you with my breezes
all coming days.
But I am just a man,
a face living to shine upon you as do the stars;
whose journey, like the birds', wants to forever halt
to gaze beauty's pinnacle in your face;
with arms to encircle you like the wind;
and hands to lace into yours like the breeze,
gently caressing your face for all my days.
